Research Australia Awards 2010


The Research Australia Awards recognise the great leaders and innovators, philanthropists, advocates and researchers that contribute to improving the health and lives of all Australians. 

Presented annually for the past eight years the Research Australia Awards aims to raise the profile of health and medical research in the community and celebrate the achievements of its contributors. 

Thursday, 25 November 2010 - Government House, Sydney (invitation only)

The Research Australia Awards celebration  brings together leaders in research, industry and the philanthropic sector.    This event has become the leading events in the health and medical research community and is also open to non members to attend.  

Award Categories



Griffith University Discovery Award for an early career researcher (no more than five years past PhD) whose paper/patent/discovery has already demonstrated its importance or impact.  The Discovery Award was introduced in 2008 and recipients include Dr Jeff Holst and Dr Sarah Whittle.  This award has been kindly supported by Griffith University since 2008.




Macquarie Group Foundation Great Australian Philanthropy Award recognises personal philanthropic donations over a period of time by an individual or family to health and medical research.   Recipients have included Dame Elisabeth Murdoch, AC, DBE, Lady Mary Fairfax, The Myer Family, Carlo Salteri AC, Mr. Frank Lowy AC,  Judy and Jack Gibson OAM and Mr Clive Berghofer AM.  This award has kindly been supported by the Macquarie Group Foundation since 2007.


      
Pfizer Australia Leadership and Innovation Award for an individual or organisation that has shown exceptional leadership and/or innovation towards making health and medical research a higher national priority.  Recipients have included The Hon. Bob Carr, The Hon. John Brumby, Sir Gus Nossal, AC, CBE,  Professor Fiona Stanley AC and  Professor Joseph Sambrook.
 
Leadership in Corporate Giving Award recognises and fosters involvement of Australian businesses, both small and large, in advancing health and medical research in Australia.  Recipients have included Channel Seven Perth,  Coco’s Fresh Food Market, Estee Lauder,  L.J. Hooker, Wesfarmers Ltd, Pfizer Australia and  the Macquarie Group Foundation.
 
Advocacy Award recognises an Australian from either the Health and Medical Research Community, media, celebrity or a member of the community that has raised community awareness about the benefits of health and medical research and the need for increased funding.  Some of the recipients have included Dr James O Little AO, Professor Ian Hickie AM, Sarah Murdoch and  Ricky Ponting.

Research Australia Lifetime Achievement Award honors a significant lifetime commitment to supporting and promoting health and medical research.  Recipients have included Susan Alberti AM, Sir Bruce Watson AC, The Hon. Neville Wran AC and Elaine Henry OAM.
